⚙️ Configure Invoice Settings in Composer
This article explains how to configure invoice settings in Composer so your invoices include the correct reference format, business details, and payment information.
What are invoice settings in Composer?
Invoice settings control the information Composer uses when generating invoices.
This includes:
- invoice numbering
- business details shown on the invoice
- bank or payment details shown to the customer
- the contact email used for invoice-related communication
You should complete these settings before using Composer to generate invoices for wholesale, account-based, or custom orders.
Before you start
Before updating your invoice settings, make sure you have:
- your business name and registered details
- your invoice reference format
- your VAT number, if applicable
- the address and email you want shown on invoices
- the bank details you want customers to pay
If you plan to invoice imported Slerp orders, also check that your Default Customer payment terms are set correctly.
Step 1 – Open the Invoice Settings page
- Log in to your Slerp Controls dashboard.
- Open Composer.
- Click Settings in the top-right corner.
- Open the Invoices tab.
This is where you manage the invoice details Composer uses when creating invoices.

Step 2 – Set the invoice reference format
Under the Reference section, complete:
- Reference Code – the prefix used for your invoice numbers
- Reference Padding – the number of digits used after the reference code
Example
If your settings are:
- Reference Code: INV
- Reference Padding: 6
Your invoice numbers may follow a format such as:
- INV000001
- INV000002
Choose a numbering format that works for your finance process and is easy to track.
Step 3 – Add your business details
Under Business Details, complete:
- Name
- Number
- VAT Number
- Address
These details appear on the invoices generated by Composer, so they should reflect the business information you want your customers to see.

Step 4 – Add your payment details
Under Payment Details, complete:
- Sort Code
- Account
- Invoice Dept. Email
These fields help customers understand where payment should be sent and who to contact about invoice-related questions.
Make sure these details are accurate before generating any invoices.

Step 5 – Save your changes
- Review all fields carefully.
- Click Submit.
Once saved, Composer will use these settings when generating invoices.
Payment terms for invoicingInvoice settings control the invoice layout and payment information, but your payment terms may also depend on your customer account setup.
For imported Slerp orders, payment terms are typically managed through the Default Customer account setup in Composer.
A common setup flow is:
- Go to Accounts.
- Open Customers.
- Select Default Customer.
- Open the relevant account.
- Edit the payment terms.
- Save the changes.
If your team uses account-based invoicing, make sure the account setup and payment terms match your agreed commercial terms.
🏆 Best practice
Before generating live invoices, review the settings to make sure:
- the invoice reference format is correct
- the business details are complete
- the VAT number is correct
- the payment details are accurate
- the invoice department email is monitored by the right team
A quick test invoice can help confirm that everything appears as expected.
⚠️ Important notes
- Invoice settings should be completed before generating invoices for customers.
- If your payment or business details change, update them in Composer before sending future invoices.
- Payment terms may be managed separately through customer/account settings.
- For Slerp-imported orders, your default customer setup may affect the due date used on invoices.
