⌨️ SEO features in Controls
Slerp provides SEO fields across different areas of your Slerp Space to help improve how your site appears in search engine results. These fields allow you to add meta descriptions and related SEO content to key pages.
This guide explains what SEO descriptions are, how to get SEO features enabled, and best practices for writing them.
What are SEO descriptions?
An SEO description (often called a meta description) is the short piece of text that appears under your page title in search engine results. It:
- Summarises what the page is about
- Helps search engines understand your content
- Influences whether a customer chooses to click through to your site
A well-written SEO description can increase your visibility and click‑through rate from search engines.
Best practices for writing SEO descriptions
When adding or editing SEO descriptions in Controls, follow these guidelines:
-
Be relevant to the page
- The description should accurately reflect the content of that specific page or view.
- Avoid generic text reused across multiple pages.
-
Keep it concise (150–160 characters)
- Aim for around 150–160 characters so the full description is likely to display in search results.
- Longer descriptions may be truncated.
-
Use relevant keywords
- Include terms your customers might search for (e.g. order pizza online in Shoreditch, same‑day cake delivery).
- Search engines may highlight these terms, making your listing stand out.
-
Include a clear call to action (CTA)
- Encourage the customer to do something specific, such as:
- “Order now for collection or delivery”
- “Book your table online”
- “Pre‑order your weekend brunch”
- Encourage the customer to do something specific, such as:
-
Write for humans first
- Make it readable and appealing, not just a list of keywords.
- Think about what would convince a new customer to click.
Examples
Here are a few example meta descriptions:
- “Order Neapolitan pizza in Soho for collection or delivery. Fresh ingredients, fast service – order online now.”
- “Pre‑order whole cakes and pastries from our bakery. Same‑day pickup available – reserve your favourites today.”
- “Enjoy cocktails and small plates at our riverside bar. Book your table online in a few clicks.”
You can adapt these patterns to match your brand voice and offering.
